The boring bloggosphere

So I’m home sick today and since there’s nothing good on TV I decided to take a trip into the bloggosphere and see what’s new among all the ”famous” Swedish bloggers. You know, Kissie, Dessie, Paow etc. After reading blog after blog I feel more bored than when I started..? All these girls do is put up pix of themselves in the most boring, plain outfits..? And yet they have hundreds of thousands readers every day?? Please understand, this is not jealousy from my side, I love girl power and love to see girls being entrepeneurs and what not, I just don’t understand how so many people can read these boring blogs day after day and think it’s interesting. I don’t mind the ego pictures if you at least have an outfit on that doesn’t look like it’s on sale from h&m! No offense to h&m or to those of you who shop there (I do too once in a while, nothing wrong with a lil h&m) but where is the entertainment value in that? Give me high fashion, design, color, give me some crazy!

Maybe I shouldn’t get worked up over what teenagers today are reading on the internet…

I’m a TOTAL product junkie. I admit I have way too many of them and too much of my budget goes towards them.. But I can’t help it! Self-improvement is so much fun, weather it be the daily tasks of putting on makeup, putting together outfits etc or the longer projects such as weight loss, growing out eyelashes, tanning etc. Over the last year I’ve seen an increase in my finances and thus I’ve been upgrading pretty much every product I use, from schampoo and hairspray to face creams and makeup. I’m going through a bit of a beauty-evolution right now in general, everything from upgrading my closet from h&m crap to nicer quality and more unique clothes, to growing out lashes to testing new face creams. I’m always looking for new products but there are a few brands that I’ve found that I’m sticking to, at least for now. Here are a few of them!

New bags <3 <3 <3

Yesterday I received these new beautiful and classic handbags from Brahmin! I bought them from Nordstroms hehe… You can take the girl out of America but you can’t take America out of the girl :)

This is the most I’ve ever spent on a handbag before, never really cared about or understood why so many girls cared so much about bags… I’ve always just shopped generic ones at h&m… but now that I have a fancy new office job I guess I gotta look the part, right? :)

Love these bags to peices! They match every outfit and make me feel exclusive hehe :) Most importantly I can hang my keys on this nifty little chain on the inside so I never have to lose them again. If I had a penny for every time I’ve misplaced my keys…

HAPPINESS

I’m experiencing intense feelings of happiness right now and I don’t know what to do with all the extra energy! Life has always been like that for me… when it’s going right, everything’s going right, and when it sucks, everything sucks at once… Well right now I have a lot to feel excited about :)

*It’s spring!! The sun is back!!

*Everyone around me is happy

*My parents are visiting next week, I see them like once a year

*My birthday on June 10th is gonna be the best birthday of my life cuz I get to spend it with my best friends in BARCELONA where we’re gonna hang for 2 weeks and go to all the off-Sonar festivities

*I like my job so far which is making me less anxious in general and allowing me to focus more energy on music

*I wrote a SMASH last week

*I got a package from Asos.com with some new clothes and they’re all super cute

*IT’S SPRING!!!

New beginnings!

So I started a new job this week! Webeditor for a hedgefund company. I figured since I’m kind of a web nerd anyway, it would be a good match. The finance industry is a whole new world for me so it’s a lot to take in but it’s interesting. My job doesn’t require any deep knowledge of hedgefunds or anything like that – I’m in charge of updating the company’s website, sending out newsletters, managing their Google presence and those types of things. So far it feels good and the best part of course is more time and energy for music! Well, perhaps not these next few weeks, while I’m learning everything, but definitely very soon!

The only part that sucks about the place where I work is that its a pretty formal atmosphere so I’m pretty much the only liberal, artsy person there which means I don’t have to reach far into the closet to find clothes that don’t fit into that environment. It’s safe to say I live a double life these days – business woman by day, hippie hipster musician and fashionista by night. :D I’m trying to find some sort of happy medium where I don’t feel like I have to sacrifice everything I am just to fit into that environment, and it’s tough but after hours of googling I’ve found some nice compromises. I went on a little shopping spree yesterday and got a bunch of minimalistic Karen Millen dresses that I think are not only appropriate for work but are actually kinda cool. :) Continue reading →

Why men are still heroes and women are still sluts

It’s International Women’s Day today and I sit here reflecting on the status of gender equality in the world today. As a woman I know I’m supposed to be in my ultimate ‘girl-power’ mood today but I have to admit I feel a bit victimized. Maybe I’m reading too much into it but aren’t we victimizing ourselves if we feel like we need to turn the world’s attention to us for just one day during the year? My thoughts immediately go to Morgan Freeman who said it best when he expressed his distaste for Black History Month, saying he doesn’t want to be referred to as ‘a black man’, but rather just, well, a man. I feel this is kind of the same thing.

I have the priveledge of living in a country that year after year tops the lists of countries having the smallest gender gap. Despite this, gender inequality is something that is always hotly debated here. (What do you expect? We’re women. We’re never gonna be satisfied. :) ) Time and time again I hear so many women out there that by default always seem to hold men accountable for everything that isn’t equal in our society today, without acknowledging the possibility that perhaps, PERHAPS, it’s us women that are standing in the way of our own progress. Oh no I didn’t! I’m not saying it has to be one or the other, across all issues, but let me explain one particular issue that is dear to my heart. Continue reading →
